Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has assured non-indigenes living in the state that his administration would remain committed towards promoting peace and security.

He described the unfortunate events in Abia state and some parts of South Eastern Nigeria as unfortunate and an attempt to cause unnecessary tension and instability in the country.

The governor, who spoke during a meeting on Wednesday night, with leaders of different ethnic groups in Kano, however appealed to youths, especially in the Northern part of the country not to engage in reprisal attacks.

“Two wrongs can never make a right. I am sure no right thinking person will support what happened recently in the East. However, we told the Northern youth leaders, when they visited us, that they should exercise restraint and not engage in counter attacks”, he stated.

Governor Ganduje told the ethnic leaders that his administration was in contact with all relevant segments of the society, to ensure that nobody was harmed and that everybody goes about his business without fear of intimidation.

“We have called you to give you confidence and to let you know that we are not asleep. We are working very hard, coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure peace prevails”, the governor maintained.

In his remarks, the President, Ethnic Communities in Kano, Dr. Jimpat Ayelangbe urged the governor to use his influence among his colleagues, to ensure that national unity was not threatened anywhere in the country.

Also commenting, the President, Ibgo Community in Kano, Chief Ebenezer Chima and the Chief of Edo Community, Chief Fred Akhegbe, disassociated their communities from what they described as “unfortunate developments in the East”, saying they would do anything possible to help in maintaining harmony and security in Kano.
