FG Seeks  more Hands in Developmental Goals, Launches  Cycling Competition

The Federal Government has urged stakeholders to form partnerships to bring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to limelight, for improved development outcomes for the people. This is disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire in her remarks to kick-off the “Racing for Sustainable Development Goals” Cycling Competition in Abuja recently. The SSAP was represented at the event by the Secretary of Program, Waziri Laminu.

The SSAP said that, as call to action for nations to address critical challenges bothering on economic, social and environmental issues; the SDGs will only strive in the spirit of partnership and pragmatism to make the right choices. This is with a view to improving people’s lives in a sustainable way for future generations, and with a commitment to “leave no one behind”.

She explained that the cycling event is an exclusive campaign to raise awareness on the SDGs, as well as promote the culture of cycling. She emphasized that the event is geared towards promoting ten out of the seventeen goals of the SDGs – goals 1,3,4,5,7,9,11,13,16 and 17.

The SSAP maintained that, in line with the Paris Climate Change Landmark Agreement in 2015, where nations resolved to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; embracing the cycling culture would help greatly in reducing the use of fossil fuel to efficiently combat climate change.

The event is a partnership effort between the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) and Dapper Exclusive Style Limited to create awareness on the SDGs, as well as promote the culture of cycling as a way of channeling youthful energy to positive outcomes.

Highlights of the event include presentation of award to the winners in different categories of the competition.
