NPS Trains Officers on Digitilization of Prisoners’ Records
The Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in collaboration with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), is conducting training program for Staff of the Statistics, Records and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Units in Rivers State.
The aim of the training is to digitize prisoners registry, design and develop automate case management system and to quicken prisoner’s access to justice by ensuring Judicial Guarantees.
Training and Retraining of staff to enhance capacity building of officers and men of the service is one of the priorities of this present administration which is led by the Controller General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed, who was ably represented by the Zonal Coordinator, Zone ‘E’ Owerre, Dr JJ Olorunmola.
In his opening remark, he appreciated the organizers of the training and reiterated the participants to exhibit great discipline in order to assimilate the subject matter”.
Case Management System (CMS) is an electronic information system designed not only to manage or upgrade record keeping but also provide a guide on policy development, which will serve the intended purpose of improving on technical reporting against the manual mode of inmates’ statistical data.
The Legal Aid Council of Nigeran, Rivers State Chapter was also at the program to enlighten participants on the role and access to legal aid council and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act e (2015)
Also present at the opening ceremony was the Controller of Prisons, OT Tinuoye, who was ably represented by Deputy Controller of Prisons, Felix Lawrence, in charge Port Harcourt.
Others are Deputy Controllers of Prisons Okorie Micheal and Okoro Godwin In charges of Ahoada and Degema Prisons respectively. The desk officer, ICT National Headquarters, Deputy Controller of Prisons, UE kalu.
The next four days has been slated for technical training which the closing ceremony will take place on Friday 9th March 2018.
