NOUN Council to approve new DVC’s appointment
Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) would have to approve the election of Professor Justus Adedeji Sokefun as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) before his appointment becomes effective, the institution’s Director, Media and Publicity, Malam Ibrahim Sheme, has said.

Sokefun was elected by the Senate of the university on March 5 during a democratic contest in which he polled 48 votes to defeat Professor Gbenga Ojo, who garnered 19 votes.

Until his election, Sokefun, a Professor of Law, was the Director, Lagos Study Centre of the university.

However, Sheme explained that a press statement in which he announced the election Wednesday was issued in error because it had not been vetted.

He said the statement, which made it look like Sokefun’s appointment was conclusive, was in fact wrong because the process had not been concluded with the final endorsement or otherwise by the governing council.

The director further revealed that the university management was in the process of overhauling the offices of the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors in order to make them more amenable to the overall administration of West Africa’s largest and single-mode university.
