Fight Against Corruption: Kwara Speaker Vows to Step on Toes

The Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu has implored monarchs to rebuke corrupt Kwarans who would want to seek refuge under their shield to prevent paying for their corrupt practices.

Hon. Danladi made this disclosure during courtsey visits to the monarchs in Baruten local government of the state, as part of his constituency tour.

“There is no how we can bring good governance and dividends of democracy to the grassroots without sanitizing the system.

The state is losing huge resources to ghost workers, almost 80 per cent of our federal allocations is catering for wage bill and we cannot sanitize this system without stepping on toes”. The Speaker said.

He added that “they will start running to you once they are caught as our fathers, please rebuke them whenever they come. They are sabotaging our developmental strides”.

“I cannot afford to fail, my failure is not Danladi’s failure, it means my generation failed. I am prepared to do all within my capacity to ensure the youth constituency which I represent did not fail but your support and prayers are needed for us to succeed”, Hon. Yakubu said.

Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, Professor Halidu Abubakar and his Yashikira counterpart, His royal highness, Alhaji Umar Seriki Usman charged Rt. Hon. Yakubu on sincerity and responsiveness to the people’s plight to gain public trust.

The monarchs warned sternly against arrogance in power and urged political office holders to hold the people in high esteem. “Once you are sincere and show serious commitment to the plight of the people, they will have confidence in you”, Prof Halidu said.

In his own remarks, the Emir of Gwanara, Alh. Sabi Idris lamented the absolute neglect of Gwanara district in all ramifications and charged the legislator to bridge the huge infrastructural deficit.

The Emir of Okuta, His Royal Highness, Alh. Idris Abubakar applauded the humility of the Speaker and tasked him and other legislators on discipline, which he said he is seeing in the Speaker already.

The monarch admonished the present government not to be distracted by politics, but should instead concentrate on governance and show the people that change has truly come.

Rt. Hon Yakubu also visited village heads of Boriya, Sankparu, Ningurme and the Lafia of Sinaya and party elders and stalwarts in Baruten local government area.
