NEXT Level: BPSR Harps on Policy Reforms, Government’s Programmes

As the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari commenced its Next-Level tenure, the need for successful implementation of government policies and programmes have become imperative, considering the numerous socio-economic challenges confronting the country at the moment, Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi has said.

Arabi, who is the Director-General of Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), added that for the government to achieve this noble objective, it has to reform several sectors of our economy, as well introduce other relevant programmes whose goals and objectives the citizens must understand for their buy-in and support.

“As the government takes several steps towards lifting millions of our citizens out of poverty, ensuring food sufficiency and improving on our infrastructural developments, amidst dwindling revenue and security challenges, the need for reforms in several sectors, as well as the introduction of new policies and programmes become inevitable,” the BPSR boss explained.

He spoke during a one-day training of information officers on reporting reforms in public service in Abuja.

The DG said the training programme is aimed at empowering Information Officers for effective reporting on reforms in public services.

“The Bureau of Public Service Reform is saddled with the mandate to initiate, coordinate, monitor and ensure full implementation of government policies and programmers. It is therefore in furtherance of realizing the objective that the Bureau has found out it is necessary to organize this training, considering the relevance of information officers in the prompt, accurate reportage, interpretation, analysis and dissemination of government policies, programmes and activities, as well as informed feedback mechanism to government,” Arabi added.

According to the BPSR helmsman, information channels and platforms have become so nebulous that government cannot afford to be reactive all the time, maintaining that government itself ought to be the chief driver in the information ecosystem, if naysayers are not to misinform and mislead the general public on government’s objectives and purpose for designing and implementing programmes.

He said: “To forestall this avoidable scenario, government expects you, as Information Managers, to be fully equipped for effective information management, especially, in this era of fake news, tilted and slanted news analysis and outright falsehood, rampant in the ubiquitous social media”.
