Yari Diverted 100 exotic cars worth N8.4bn to Cronies- Zamfara Panel

Zamfara State Government’s Projects Verification Committee has uncovered over 100 exotic cars allegedly purchased by former Governor Abdulaziz Yari at N8.4billion from the state coffers and distributed to his family and friends.

A statement signed on Tuesday by Governor Bello Matawalle’s Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Zailani Bappa, said the development was disclosed by the chairman of the committee, Ahmed Gusau, after submitting its interim report to the governor.

According to the report, over 1,000 vehicles belonging to the State Government, representing 66% of its total vehicles, could not be accounted for after Mr Yari’s exit from the State House.

The committee also uncovered about N35million Hajj fare the Yari administration refused to refund to some 2012 intending pilgrims who could not be airlifted.

Mr Gusau, therefore, appealed to Governor Matawalle to sponsor these persons for the next Hajj.

On the state’s school feeding, Mr Gusau lamented that the children were fed with food which the chairman described as “animalistic and ungodly”.

“One will not feed one’s dog with the kind of near poison we saw in the name of food to these children.

“Despite the poor provision of food, the number of the children was highly inflated.

“In a school where a Principal claims to be feeding 700 students three meals a day, we repeatedly found less than 50 students feeding,” Mr Gusau complained.

Receiving the report, Governor Matawalle thanked the committee for a good job and promised to look into the report with the view to implementing its recommendations.
