Brig Gen Abdulwahab Eyitayo Takes over as GOC 7 Division of Nigerian Army

Following the recent posting and appointment of senior officers and officers of the Nigerian Army, the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 Operation LAFIYA DOLE Major General Abdul Khalifa Ibrahim has handed over command and the mantle of leadership to his successor Brigadier General Abdulwahab Adelokun Eyitayo in accordance with military customs and tradition on Monday, 15 March, 2021 at the Division’s Headquarters in Maiduguri.

Major General AK Ibrahim who took over Command as GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 OPLD on 25 August, 2019 held the appointment for over 18 months before being reappointed as a Senior Resource Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja.

The handing and taking over ceremony commenced with series of activities which includes tour to locations within the Sector’s Area of Responsibility, visit to the Maimalari Military Cantonment Cemetery for laying of wreath, commissioning of completed projects within the cantonment, operational briefings amongst others.

The climax of the handing over ceremony was the signing of handing and taking over notes, decoration of the incoming GOC with the Division’s insignia and exchange of the mantle of leadership between the outgoing and incoming GOC and finally removing and hoisting of new flag signifying the end and beginning of a new era.

In his valedictory address, the outgoing GOC, Major General Abdul Khalifa Ibrahim expressed his immense appreciation to officers and soldiers of the Division for their support, cooperation, professionalism, doggedness and resilience throughout his tenure. He added that it was their efforts that earn him the accolades in the Theatre. Furthermore, he commended their level of discipline and unalloyed loyalty urging them to extend same to his successor.

Major General AK Ibrahim described his successor as a gallant and dogged fighter who led and fought along with his troops in Konduga and Baga respectively. He expressed optimism that he will do even more to ensure the Division/Sector maintain its standard of doggedness, boldness and operational exploits in the Theatre.

Similarly, the incoming Acting GOC, Brigadier General Abdulwahab A Eyitayo appreciates God Almighty for making it a reality and also the Chief of Army Staff for finding him worthy to be appointed as the Acting GOC of a Division in the Theatre of OPLD. He commended the outgoing GOC for a successful tour of duty and series of successes recorded so far. He implore the officers and troops to extend same cooperation accorded to his predecessor.

It is worthy to note that Major General Abdul Khalifa Ibrahim and Brigadier General Abdulwahab Eyitayo are school mates from Federal Government College Kaduna, members of Regular Combatant Course 39, trained in Mogadishu Battalion at the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy with serial Army number closely related and both posted to Infantry Corp. Events was highly successful and hitch free.
