Military Rescues Eight Kidnap Victims During Forest Raid in Plateau
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued eight kidnap victims during a pre-dawn offensive against suspected kidnappers at Pandam Forest in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted by troops of Sector 9 deployed in Namu Town at about 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, followed credible intelligence on the presence of kidnappers operating within the forest.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Capt. Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the troops came under sporadic gunfire as the suspected kidnappers attempted to flee during the operation.

“The operation, conducted following credible intelligence regarding the presence of kidnappers in the forest, highlights the troops’ unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security as well as protecting citizens across the Joint Operations Area,” the statement said.
It explained that three of the abducted victims escaped from their captors during the exchange of fire, while troops subsequently combed the forest and rescued five additional victims, bringing the total number of those freed to eight.
The military said all the rescued victims are in safe condition and efforts are underway to reunite them with their families.
The statement added that the successful operation has been widely commended by residents of the affected communities, who pledged to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence to facilitate the arrest of criminal elements.
Troops are currently pursuing the fleeing kidnappers with a view to apprehending or neutralising them.
Operation Enduring Peace appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and urged citizens to sustain intelligence sharing to help disrupt criminal activities and restore lasting peace across the Joint Operations Area.
