FG Orders ‘Maximum Force’ on Hoodlums Attacking Correctional Centres

The Federal Government has mandated the arms squad of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to apply maximum force on persons who attempt to attack any correctional centre, across the country.

It also declared the correctional facilities as ‘red zones’, which hoodlums and gunmen must not approach.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made this known at the Headquarters of the NCoS, while addressing Field Commanders and personnel of the Service, at a press briefing.

He said correctional facilities represent the symbol of authority of the Nigerian state, hence they should be seen sacred, inviolable, and indomitable institutions.

According to Aregbesola, any hoodlum or criminal element who attempt to violate the sanctity of any correctional facility must leave to regret the consequences of his ‘cowardly’ action.

The Minister who described correctional centres as a ‘fortress’ which nobody should dare to penetrate, said personnel of the NCoS will henceforth be held responsible for any attack on correctional centres.

Rauf Aregbesola told the field commanders and other NCoS personnel to see the mission of defending their correctional facilities as one which must not be compromised, by all means and at all cost.

“The weapons and instruments at your disposal must be lawfully deployed for maximum effect. You must hold your ground and prevent further violations of our correctional facilities,” he said.

Acting Controller General of NCoS, John Mrabure, assured the Minister of their personnel’s readiness to arrest the spate of wanton attacks on correctional facilities.
