AU- PSC  extend mandate of MJTF by additional 1 year, untill Feb. 2024

AU- PSC  extend mandate of MJTF by additional 1 year, untill Feb. 2024

The African Union Peace and Security Council has  extended the mandate of the Multinational Joint Task Force(MNJTF), in the fight against Boko Haram/ISWAP by one year, until February 2024.

The Mandate was extended n Monday after a vote by at the  headquarters of the Multi National Joint Task Force(MNJTF) in N’Djamena Chad.

In their separate remarks, the  Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, Commissioner for Political Affairs Peace and Security Commission, Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, the Executive Secretary of Lake Chad Basin Commission and Head of Mission of the MNJTF, and The Force Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Maj-Gen. Abul Khalifa Ibrahim, commended the MNJTF for the tremendous successes working with national operations including neutralization of key terrorists leaders and decimating their logistics support bases.

They, however, urged the MNJTF to conduct more operations which will force the terrorists to surrender unconditionally or face elimination.

It will be recalled that over the past few months the forces of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger have scored tremendous gains in the fight against Boko haram and ISWAP in the lake Chad. these successes have strengthened hopes of the total elimination of the insurgents.
