NCoS expels 2 staff, sanction 35 others over misconduct

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed two (2) of it’s  personnel while thirty five (35) others were sanctioned.

According to reports, the officers were sanctioned for misconducts ranging from trafficking in contrabands, unauthorized absence from duty, stealing, negligence of duty, criminal conspiracy, as well as aiding and abetting.

National Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Correctional Service, Assistant Controller of Corrections AD Umar in a statement issued on Wednesday said the dismissal as well as the sanctions were part of the efforts to ensure discipline of its personnel and entrench international correctional best practices.

He further said the offences constitute threats to the security of correctional facilities, and can jeopardize public safety and national security.

The National PRO of NCoS explained that the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa has clarified that the Service will continue to reward diligence and exceptional performances, stressing that it will not hesitate to punish erring personnel according to the provisions of extant laws.

According to Umar, “The Controller General maintains that the Service will leave no stone unturned to ensure that ‘bad eggs’ are flushed out of the system.

“He assures that the Service will continue to perform its statutory mandates with integrity and ethical standards in line with international best practices.” He noted.
