ICRC Trains Journalists on First Aid Emergency Response in Abuja
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has equipped journalists with the skills necessary to save lives, prevent injuries from worsening, and promote quick recovery in emergency situations.
Mr. Qusai Alazroni, the Communication Coordinator, highlighted the significance of this initiative following a two-day capacity-building workshop on first aid to address pre-hospital injuries, in Abuja.
“First aid is an integral aspect of a journalist’s work, enabling them to effectively respond to emergencies they may encounter during their assignments,” Alazroni stated.
He emphasized that emergency care encompasses a spectrum of situations, from minor issues to more severe ones, saying it is imperative that journalists are empowered with requisite first aid skills.

“ICRC has been present in Nigeria since 2010, providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by armed conflict and violence, particularly in the North East,” Alazroni noted.
“Operating in these volatile environments, ICRC recognizes the vital role played by the media in disseminating essential information while acknowledging the safety challenges associated with reporting during conflict times.”
He acknowledged the unfortunate reality that journalists sometimes face injuries or even death while pursuing their work.
“To mitigate these risks, ICRC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Red Cross Society, has undertaken this training to strengthen the capacity of journalists in addressing pre-hospital injuries,” Alazroni explained.
He urged the participants to effectively utilize and share the acquired skills within their respective organizations, in order to maximize the impact of the training they received.
