Emir of Ilorin, Others Mourn Kwara’s Doyen of SANs, Aliyu Alarape Salman
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has mourned over the demise of Alhaji Aliyu Alarape Salman SAN, who died on Sunday.
The first Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in Kwara State and a life member, Body of Bencher Salman died at the age of 81.
The Emir who described the deceased as a legal luminary of quality multi-purpose to the Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State and nation in general stressing that, “Alhaji Alarape Salman SAN gave his best to the Ilorin Emirate in particular and humanity in general. ”
According to a condolence message issued by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir further confirmed that the deceased was amiable, committed and dedicated to the development of the nation as a vibrant Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN) and community leader whose years of selfless services spanned many decades.”
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari however commiserated with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) as well as the leadership of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) over the demise of a valuable elderstateman.
The Emir who prayed Almighty Allah to comfort the family ask for absolute forgiveness of the deceased shortcomings, acceptance of his good deeds and admission into paradise.

Also in his condolence message, the National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji AbdulMumini Ayo AbdulMalik, described the former Presidentbof the Union as as an outstanding legal practitioner and a foremost patriot, who played prominent roles in the establishment of Ilorin Grammar School and Ilorin Community Bank (now Ilorin Microfinance Bank), among others.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Union, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahiim, the IEDPU President said that the decision of the deceased to resign his appointment as the Attorney-General and Honourable Commissioner of Justice in Kwara State solely for the projection and protection of the corporate interests of Ilorin Emirate in 1978 would never be forgotten.
Alarape Salman was born on November 9, 1942, and hailed from Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
He attended the Aladabiyyah Muslim School, which is now known as the Ansar l-Islam Primary School, up to Standard Two and later went to Baptist Day Primary School, Minna.
He completed his elementary education at the Bababoko Primary School in Ilorin and attended the prestigious Barewa College, Zaria, and got the school certificate in 1959.
Later, he went to the Ahmadu Bello University, graduated in 1967, and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in Lagos, where he qualified as a lawyer in 1968.
He was called to the bar with the likes of retired Justice Issa Ayo Salami and the present Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari.
He became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria on February 27, 1987, during the military regime of Muhammadu Buhari.
After he graduated from Law School, in Lagos, where he qualified as a lawyer in 1968, he started work in the Ministry of Justice in Sokoto and was a deputy Solicitor-General.
In 1976, he was appointed the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Kwara State, where he worked till 1978 and resigned to establish his law firm known as SARRA Chambers, an acronym of the first letters of the names of his five children
He worked in his chambers until his death.H e is survived by a wife, five children, and many grandchildren
