Naval War College hosts inter-agency seminar to strengthen Maritime security
In a significant stride toward bolstering maritime security and combating illicit activities, the Nigerian Naval War College Calabar, Cross Rivers state has on Wednesday hosted an inter-agency seminar.
The event, which also include a special sea trip was organized with the sole focus of fostering interagency collaboration to ensure maritime security.
According to the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Abdullah Ahmed, the initiative is envisioned to foster effective cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders, ensuring a safer maritime environment for Nigeria.
He said the seminar brought together professionals from various law enforcement agencies, naval senior officers and other sister agencies.
Rear Admiral Ahmed said the need of the collaboration cannot be overstated, identifying challenges such as piracy, smuggling, and illegal fishing pose escalating threats within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
He explained that the seminar was organise to address these challenges, hence, assembled a diverse group of experts.

Rear Admiral Ahmed, also stressed the necessity of the inter-agency collaboration in mitigating maritime threats, adding that, “In today:s interconnected world, no single agency can effectively combat maritime crimes alone.”
Participants at the seminar included representatives from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, and Nigerian Inland Waterways.
The seminar provided a platform for practical learning, while participants engaged in simulations at sea, tackling real-world scenarios.
These exercises also honed their decision-making skills, preparing them for the demanding environments they may encounter during their service.
Mrs. Roselyn Izuagbe, Director of the Department of State Security Service Cross River State Command, delivered an enlightening lecture as the Guest Lecturer.
Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Saheed Adeshina Akinwade, who doubled as the special guest of honor at the seminar, urged participants to fully engage in the learning process, emphasizing the significance of their collective efforts in safeguarding the country’s maritime entity.
