The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) has commenced an Environmental Study Tour (EST) to Benue and Osun States from March 11 to 14, 2024. The theme of the tour is *”Protection of Solid Minerals Sector for Enhanced National Security.”*

As an integral part of Module 2 in the College curriculum, the EST serves as a crucial educational component of the institution. It aims to provide participants with firsthand insights into the role of selected establishments and organizations in achieving national security and defense objectives.

During the tour, participants will assess the current capacity of the nation and its security apparatus to safeguard these organizations, contributing to national security within Nigeria’s strategic framework.

The tour will include visits to various organizations and establishments, such as the Federal Mining, State Police Command Headquarters, Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Solid Minerals, as well as military establishments, among others. This comprehensive exploration aims to deepen participants’ understanding of the solid minerals sector’s importance in national security and defense strategies.

The entourage included Directors and members of the Faculty as well as Research Fellows. It’s expected to be an enriching experience for the 75 participants of AWCN Course 8/2024, comprising Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, and their equivalents from the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The composition includes 65 from the Nigerian Army, two from the Nigerian Navy, and two from the Nigerian Air Force. Furthermore, six participants from allied nations, with one each from Congo Brazzaville, Cote D’Ivore, Liberia, Eswatini, and Togo, while Cameroon has two participants.
