NAF Advocates Unified Global Air Power Response to Emerging Security Threats
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening international air power cooperation as he represented the country at the SICOFAA Symposium in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Air Marshal Aneke attended the high-level gathering in his dual capacity as Chief of the Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force and Chairman of the Association of African Air Forces, joining Air Chiefs, senior military officers and strategic partners from across Africa and the Americas to discuss evolving global security challenges and opportunities for collaboration.
Addressing participants at the symposium, the Nigerian Air Force chief emphasized the importance of stronger international partnerships in tackling emerging security threats, noting that modern security challenges require enhanced cooperation among air forces worldwide.
He observed that terrorism, transnational crime, humanitarian crises and natural disasters continue to shape the global security landscape, making innovation, interoperability and strategic collaboration increasingly critical to effective responses.

According to Aneke, the Association of African Air Forces remains a key platform for promoting professional excellence, capacity development and the exchange of operational best practices among African air forces. He added that the organisation is also fostering stronger relationships with like-minded international bodies, including the System of Cooperation Among the American Air Forces.
The CAS identified several areas for deeper collaboration between African and American air forces, including joint exercises, air mobility operations, search and rescue missions, aerospace medicine, logistics support and disaster response initiatives aimed at improving collective operational effectiveness.
He also highlighted plans for the African Air Forces Field Training Exercise scheduled to hold in Kenya in 2027, describing it as a landmark initiative that will enhance preparedness for joint security and humanitarian operations involving African air forces and selected international partners.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to collective security and professional excellence, Aneke urged participants to translate discussions at the symposium into practical actions that would strengthen trust, improve interoperability and deepen international air power cooperation.
The CAS noted that Nigeria remains committed to fostering enduring global partnerships that promote peace, stability and collaborative security across regions.
His participation at the symposium further underscores Nigeria’s growing profile in international defence diplomacy and highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic role in advancing multinational security cooperation on the global stage.
