MINILS Trains 500 Youths on Entrepreneurship Skills in Ilorin

The Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) has trained 500 youths on entrepreneurship skills, with a target of empowering 5,000 youths. The training, held at the MINILS campus in Ilorin, drew participants from across the six geo-political zones in the country.

The Director General of MINILS, Mr. Issa Aremu, said the training aims to promote employability and self-employment among youths. He emphasized the need for vocational and entrepreneurship skills beyond certificates, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s 8-point agenda on youth empowerment and job creation.

The training covered areas such as Cinematography & Photography, Carpentry & Woodwork, and Tie & Dye, to equip participants with skills to become self-employed and potential employers. Aremu noted that the institute is diversifying its training to include massive job creation through skills acquisition, exceeding its annual target of 1,250 participants.

The selection process included female participants and youths living with disabilities, aligning with the new Labour, Employment, and Employment Programme (LEEP). Aremu called for government support and enabling environment for businesses to thrive, as well as partnerships with organizations like NITDA, ILO, and SMEDAN to continue empowering youths.

Guest speakers, including the CEO of LUBCON, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim, and the State Controller of Labour, Mr. M.B. Orodiran, commended the initiative and urged participants to take the training seriously. The Ag. Head of Department, Entrepreneurship Development Department, Mr. Ajayi Adeyemi, advised participants to be focused and use the acquired skills to turn their lives around.

The training is part of MINILS’ efforts to promote youth empowerment, job creation, and economic growth, aligning with the federal government’s agenda.
