Fact-check: Is CP Moshood Jimoh the Police Commissioner in Charge Railways Commands?

There is a widely posted  claim on social media platforms, particularly X that CP Moshood Jimoh is the police commissioner in charge of railway police commands.

The claim was first made by an X user, Fisayo Soyombo, calling on the CP to call his men at EBJ Police Station, Railway Area Command, Yaba, in Lagos to order for allegedly demanding bribes from six detainess — four men and two women — arrested on a Saturday morning over alleged disappearance of clothes at a section of Tejuosho market.

The post reads: “CP Moshood Jimoh, Commissioner of Police in charge of Railway Police Commands nationwide, your men at EBJ Police Station, Railway Area Command, Yaba are demanding bribes from six detainess — four men and two women — arrested on Saturday morning over the disappearance of clothes at a section of Tejuosho market.”

The post attracted a lot of reactions, with over 50.000 views, 1, 470 reposts, 1,307 likes and 27 bookmarks.

Using keyword search, results shown that CP Jimoh Moshood was among the Commissioners of Police posted/redeployed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Tuesday 30th January, 2024 at the Goodluck Jonathan International Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

PRNigeria contacted the Lagos State Police Command PPRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, who described the allegation as blatant mischievous and malicious falsehood.

Investigating further, the PRNigeria fact-check confirmed that since his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police, Jimoh has only worked and is still working at Eastern Ports Police Command, Port Harcourt, in Rivers State.

CP Jimoh joined the force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2000 and has held various leadership positions over the years, including deployments for peacekeeping missions in Cross River State and Sudan.

Some of the notable roles he has held include Head of the Special Intelligence Bureau and Police Public Relations Officer in the Federal Capital Territory, as well as Divisional Police Officer in Abuja. He has also served as Chief Superintendent of Police in Cross River and Abuja, and held senior positions as Force Public Relations Officer before being promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Oyo State.

Jimoh later served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Force CID in Gombe, overseeing six states in the North Eastern geopolitical zone. When he was promoted this year, he has been the Police Commissioner in charge of Eastern Ports Police Command, Port Harcourt, in Rivers State.

Conclusion

Therefore, based on the evidence and findings gathered, PRNigeria fact-check concludes the the viral claim that CP Moshood Jimoh Olohundare is the Commissioner of Police in charge of railway police commands nationwide is false, mischievous and misleading.
