REVEALED: How Troops Repelled Attacks in Katsina, Borno and Sokoto

In a series of coordinated operations, Nigerian security forces have successfully repelled multiple attacks by terrorists and bandits across Katsina, Borno, and Sokoto States, averting potentially devastating assaults on civilian and military targets, PRNigeria reports.

In Katsina State, security personnel foiled an attack on the residence of a traditional leader in Dayi community, Malumfashi Local Government Area.

The suspected bandits stormed the home of Alhaji Yahaya Lawal, the 60-year-old village head, in the early hours of Saturday. Upon receiving a distress call around 12:05 a.m., police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing them to retreat.

While escaping, the assailants opened fire on residents of Unguwar Bugau village, injuring two people. One of the victims, Sani Umar, 30, later succumbed to his injuries at the Malumfashi General Hospital, while Muhammad Garba, 22, remains under medical care.

Meanwhile, in Borno State, troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), repelled a pre-dawn attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Rann, the administrative centre of Kala-Balge Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred around 12:15 a.m. on May 13, saw the terrorists disguised as Fulani herdsmen launch a coordinated assault.

Ground troops engaged the insurgents in a firefight, while a NAF fighter jet was deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the air asset tracked and targeted a fleeing group of terrorists in a Hilux truck, neutralising several of them and destroying the vehicle. Although the exact number of terrorist casualties could not be independently verified, authorities confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the area.

Similarly, in Sokoto State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA thwarted an attempted bandit attack on Tsabren Sarki village in Isa Local Government Area late Tuesday night. The attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on May 13, when a large number of armed bandits stormed the community, reportedly in search of food.

The military’s rapid response led to a gun duel, eventually forcing the attackers to flee into the surrounding bush. There were no reported casualties among security forces or villagers. Joint patrols have since been intensified to maintain security in the area.

These latest successes underscore the ongoing commitment of Nigeria’s security forces to combat terrorism and armed banditry across the country’s northern region.
