NPF Champions Regional Security Collaboration as IGP Attends 13th AFRIPOL Meeting in Algeria
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, is currently leading Nigeria’s delegation at the 13th AFRIPOL Steering Committee Meeting in Algiers, Algeria, as security leaders across Africa convene to intensify the continent’s fight against terrorism, organized crime, and violent extremism.
The two-day high-level summit, taking place from July 7 to 8, 2025, draws together Police Chiefs, senior law enforcement officials, and regional security stakeholders under the African Union’s peace and security framework. IGP Egbetokun is attending in his dual capacity as Nigeria’s Chief of Police and Chairperson of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), reflecting Nigeria’s growing leadership in continental security cooperation.
Top on the agenda are strategies to combat Transnational Organized Crime (TOC), counter-terrorism (CT), and regional police collaboration. Briefings include a continental assessment of TOC, updates on the operationalization of the African Security Communication System (AFSECOM), and ongoing AFRIPOL institutional reforms and strategic development. The meeting also sets the stage for preparations toward the 14th Steering Committee Meeting and the 5th AFRIPOL General Assembly.

In his address, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks through enhanced intelligence sharing, joint operations, and multilateral enforcement partnerships. He stressed the urgency of adopting modern technologies, integrated communication systems, and robust inter-agency task forces to tackle evolving cross-border threats, including cybercrime, human trafficking, and terrorism.
“The battle against transnational organized crime cannot be fought in silos. We must embrace a unified purpose, coordinated action, and strategic cooperation,” the IGP said, calling for deeper legal harmonization, advanced training for law enforcement personnel, and stronger regional interoperability.
The meeting is attended by several high-ranking officials including Algeria’s Director-General of National Security, Ali Badaoui, representatives of the Central African Police Chiefs Committee (CAPCCO), the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation (EAPCCO), and other regional security bodies.
The Nigeria Police Force, through the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, reiterated its pledge to support AFRIPOL’s mission of promoting a secure and peaceful Africa. The Force restated its commitment to active involvement in multilateral efforts aimed at protecting communities and strengthening the continent’s collective security framework.
