Troops Foil Kidnapping in Nasarawa as Gunmen Abduct Ex-Governor Almakura’s Aide
Security forces in Nasarawa State on Friday recorded mixed outcomes in the fight against banditry, as troops successfully rescued three kidnap victims along the Garaku–Keffi Road, while suspected gunmen abducted a personal aide to former Governor Tanko Almakura in Lafia, PRNigeria reports.
At about 4:28 a.m. on August 15, troops of the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with the Police, responded to a distress call from Angwan Mayo community, where armed men had blocked the federal highway.
According to security sources, two vehicles loaded with Irish potatoes and pepper were found abandoned on the road. Their drivers later emerged from the bush and confirmed that three passengers had been whisked away by the kidnappers.

The troops, according to Zagazola Makama, pursued the suspects into the forest with heavy gunfire, forcing the criminals to abandon the victims. All three abducted passengers were rescued unhurt and reunited with their drivers, who later continued their journey to Abuja. No casualty was reported in the operation.
However, in a separate incident, gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted Alhaji Adamu, the Personal Assistant to ex-Governor Senator Tanko Almakura, from his residence in Lafia.
Intelligence sources disclosed that the attack occurred around 3:40 a.m. at No. 45 Alkali Street, where the victim was taken away by the assailants. Security agencies, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units, were immediately deployed to track the perpetrators and secure Adamu’s release.
Authorities have assured that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim safely and bring the culprits to justice. Meanwhile, troops and police operatives have intensified patrols across Nasarawa State to prevent further attacks.
