Finally, Trump Targets Nigeria as ‘Country of Particular Concern’ over Alleged ‘Christian Genocide’
United States President Donald Trump has declared Nigeria a “country of particular concern” following allegations of widespread killings targeting Christians across the country.
Trump made the announcement on Friday in a post on his Truth Social platform, which was later shared on the official White House X (formerly Twitter) handle.
According to the U.S.-based Family Research Council, the designation of a nation as a “country of particular concern” is an official classification under American law, typically made by the Secretary of State. It is applied to countries accused of engaging in or tolerating severe violations of religious freedom or human rights.
In his statement, President Trump said:

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby designating Nigeria a ‘country of particular concern.’”
He further cited figures alleging that over 3,000 Christians had been killed in Nigeria, describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis that “demands urgent international attention.”
“When Christians, or any such group, are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria—3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide—something must be done! I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter and report back to me,” Trump added.
The U.S. President also pledged his administration’s readiness to intervene in what he called “atrocities” against Christians in Nigeria and other countries.
“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world!” his post concluded.
Further details on the implications of the new designation are expected in the coming days.
