Army Dismantles Bandits Camps, Eliminates 2, Recover Weapons in Taraba

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified their offensive against banditry in Taraba State, achieving notable successes including the destruction of bandits’ camps, neutralisation of armed elements, recovery of weapons, and the arrest of a key suspect.

On 2 December 2025, the troops launched a deliberate clearance operation under Operation Zafin Wuta targeting Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua villages in Takum Local Government Area, following credible intelligence on the presence of armed groups in the Tor-Tser general area. As soldiers advanced towards mountainous hideouts, the bandits fled deeper into the rugged terrain, abandoning their camps. The troops conducted thorough searches before destroying the hideouts, which had previously been considered inaccessible to security forces.

In Tyozua, fleeing bandits set a wooden bridge ablaze in a bid to block the soldiers’ advance. Undeterred, the troops pressed forward, forcing the criminals across the power line into neighbouring Benue State. During the operation, one suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari, was arrested and is now undergoing preliminary investigation.

In a related development, on 4 December 2025, troops conducted a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido to prevent bandits from regrouping. While advancing towards Usmanu, the patrol came under gunfire from armed bandits hiding in Wudompi Community. The soldiers responded swiftly, repelling the attack and neutralising two of the assailants.

A search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition, with no casualties recorded among the troops. Security in Karim Lamido remains stable, with soldiers maintaining heightened vigilance.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, commended the professionalism and gallantry of the troops. He emphasized that the operations demonstrate that no terrain is inaccessible to the Nigerian Army and no criminal enclave is beyond reach. Brigadier General Uwa assured residents of Taraba State that the Brigade remains committed to pursuing criminals wherever they may flee and sustaining pressure until all threats to peace are eliminated.
