Kano Assembly in Mourning as Two Lawmakers Die Within Hours
The Kano State House of Assembly has been thrown into deep mourning following the deaths of two serving lawmakers, who reportedly passed away within hours of each other on Wednesday.
One of the deceased lawmakers, Aminu Sa’adu Ungoggo, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, reportedly died at the Assembly complex after a brief illness.The death of Ungoggo was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, who said the lawmaker died while actively discharging his legislative duties.
“The late Hon. Ungoggo died while in active duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement read.
Ungoggo’s death came as a shock to lawmakers and staff of the Assembly, given his active role in legislative affairs, particularly at a time critical budgetary matters were being handled by the House.

Speaker of the Assembly, Jibril Falgore, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased, his constituents and colleagues, describing the loss as painful and irreplaceable.
“Hon. Ungoggo’s death comes at a critical time when the people of Kano needed his contributions the most,” Falgore said.
The remains of the late lawmaker were scheduled to be laid to rest on Wednesday evening at about 6:00 p.m. in his hometown, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Barely hours after Ungoggo’s death, the Assembly was again hit by tragedy with the reported demise of another member, Aliyu Sarki Daneji, compounding the sense of grief within the legislative chamber.
The twin losses have cast a pall over the Kano State House of Assembly, with lawmakers and residents describing the development as a major setback to legislative representation and governance in the state.
