Protect Oil Assets, Boost Production — Army Chief Tells Troops

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the Nigerian Army to intensify efforts to protect critical oil and gas infrastructure and support increased production in the Niger Delta.

The Army Chief gave the directive on Friday during his maiden operational visit to Headquarters 6 Division at the Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State, where he addressed officers and soldiers at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground.

General Shaibu said safeguarding national oil assets remains central to Nigeria’s economic stability and recovery, stressing that sustained security operations in the Niger Delta Region are critical to boosting crude oil output and national revenue.

He reaffirmed that the welfare of troops remains a top priority of his command, noting that since assuming office.

PRNigeria reports that, the Army chief had  embarked on visits to formations and units across the country to assess operational readiness and address challenges confronting personnel.

“The welfare of officers, soldiers and their families is receiving serious attention. A motivated and well-supported force is essential to achieving operational success,” the COAS said.

He urged troops of 6 Division to remain professional, disciplined and committed to their mandate, while discharging their duties in line with his command philosophy. He also called for sustained vigilance and dedication in protecting critical national infrastructure across the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, briefed the Army Chief on ongoing operations and security activities in the Niger Delta. He also took the COAS on a tour of ongoing projects within the barracks and reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to delivering on the Army Chief’s vision.

Highlights of the visit included a symbolic tree-planting exercise by the COAS and principal staff officers, as well as an interactive session with troops, during which General Shaibu further reassured personnel of his resolve to improve welfare and operational effectiveness.

The visit, according to the Army Chief, underscores the Nigerian Army’s determination to secure national assets, enhance oil production and contribute to broader economic and security objectives in the Niger Delta.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director Army Public Relations confirmed this in a statement today.
