Police Strengthen Complaints Unit to Tackle Misconduct, Abuse of Office
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, professionalism and improved public trust with the strengthening of the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU) as a direct platform for citizens to report misconduct by police personnel.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, disclosed this during an emergency conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the IGP, the Complaints Response Unit remains fully operational round the clock, offering Nigerians a direct and accessible channel to report cases of police misconduct, abuse of office, extortion, human rights violations and other unethical practices involving officers and men of the Force.

He urged Nigerians to make responsible use of the available complaint channels, noting that public cooperation is essential to building a more transparent, professional and people-oriented police institution.
The police boss further assured that all reports received through the CRU would be treated with seriousness and confidentiality, while disciplinary measures would continue to be applied against personnel found culpable after investigations.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains determined to strengthen public confidence and institutional integrity through transparency, responsiveness and respect for the rule of law,” he said.
