How Kano Police Arrested 248 Suspected Criminals, Recovered Arms, Drugs in One-Month – CP Bakori
The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested 248 suspects for various criminal offences, including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, theft, and violent public disturbance, as part of intensified security operations across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, where he reviewed the security situation and operational achievements of the Command between April 20 and May 20, 2026.
Bakori said the Command recorded significant breakthroughs through intelligence-led policing, joint security operations, and strengthened community engagement strategies.
According to him, the arrests included 18 suspected armed robbers, five suspected kidnappers, 32 suspected drug dealers, 12 suspected motor vehicle thieves, 11 tricycle thieves, six motorcycle thieves, 15 suspected thieves, and 149 suspects linked to violent public disturbances.
The police commissioner also disclosed that three kidnapped victims were rescued safely and reunited with their families during the period under review.
He said the Command recovered a cache of weapons and dangerous items, including one pistol, four locally made revolver guns, one locally fabricated revolver pistol, one Dane gun, and five cartridges.
Other items recovered include 232 cutlasses, 374 knives, 13 axes, 58 scissors, two bows and 23 arrows, as well as 37 clubs popularly known as “Gora”.
Bakori further revealed that operatives seized 923 parcels and 631 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, four cartons of suspected rubber solution, suspected Exol and Diazepam tablets, seven motor vehicles, five tricycles, eight motorcycles, 34 mobile phones, and 36 SIM cards.
“All suspects are undergoing thorough investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation in line with due process,” he said.
The police commissioner stated that although Kano State remains relatively peaceful, the Command observed rising incidents of social crimes and violent activities in some parts of the metropolis, particularly Fagge, IBB Road, and Hotoro areas.

He added that security concerns were also recorded along the Kano-Katsina border communities.
In response, Bakori said the police, in collaboration with other security agencies under the Joint Task Force (JTF), reviewed operational strategies by increasing personnel deployment, intensifying intelligence-led operations, conducting targeted raids, and strengthening visibility policing.
He noted that additional personnel and logistics had also been deployed to border local government areas to prevent criminal infiltration and improve rapid response capability.
The commissioner further announced that the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) had become fully operational to improve rapid response to armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, and related violent crimes.
According to him, the unit operates круглосуточно and can be reached through dedicated emergency lines.
Bakori said the Command had also intensified internal supervision to ensure professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights among officers and men of the force.
He added that disciplinary mechanisms had been strengthened to promptly address cases of misconduct.
On community policing efforts, the commissioner said the police had expanded engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, market associations, and community-based organisations to build public trust and address the root causes of crime.
He also highlighted increased collaboration with the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups, especially in border communities.
Bakori commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for supporting security agencies and promoting inter-agency cooperation in the state.
He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, assuring that all intelligence provided would be treated confidentially.
“The Kano State Police Command remains committed to professional, accountable, and people-centred policing. We will sustain ongoing operations to ensure Kano remains safe and unconducive for criminal activities,” the commissioner said.
