Army Warns Public Over Fake Accounts Impersonating Senior Officers
The Nigerian Army has issued a public warning over the activities of fraudsters operating fake social media accounts, particularly on Facebook, impersonating senior military officers in a bid to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
According to a disclaimer, the fraudulent accounts are impersonating the Deputy Chief of Standards and Evaluation (Army), Major General Raymond Terungwa Utsaha, while also unlawfully using the photograph of the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, to create a false impression of authenticity.
The Army stated that the accounts were created with malicious intent to deceive individuals through false representations, unsolicited engagements, and financial solicitation.
