Customs Hospital Performs First Caesarean Section in Bauchi
The Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Hospital in Bauchi has successfully conducted its first elective Caesarean section, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s expanding healthcare services.
The procedure was carried out on May 17, 2026, by a medical team led by the Medical Officer Superintendent of Customs, Dr Nantim Shedum, under the supervision of the Zonal Medical Officer, Zone D, and Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Dr Sanusi Garba, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.
Speaking on the development, Dr Garba described the successful surgery as a major achievement that demonstrates the hospital’s increasing capacity to handle advanced medical and surgical procedures.
He assured officers and personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service, as well as members of the public, of the hospital’s commitment to providing quality, efficient, and accessible healthcare services.

According to him, the milestone reflects ongoing efforts by the management of the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthen medical services and improve healthcare delivery within the Service and host communities.
Also reacting, the Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Chukwudi Ogbonna, commended the medical team for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to duty.
Ogbonna noted that the successful operation represents a new phase in healthcare delivery within the zone and expressed confidence that the hospital would continue to record greater achievements.
The father of the newborn also expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs and the management of the Nigeria Customs Service for their commitment to providing affordable and quality healthcare services.
He urged the Service to sustain the initiative, noting that the intervention would continue to benefit personnel and members of the public seeking medical care at the facility.
