IGP Okays Promotion of 17,952 Junior Police Officers Nationwide
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across the country in a move aimed at boosting personnel welfare, morale, and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
The promotion, which cuts across commands and formations nationwide, affects officers in various junior ranks. According to the police hierarchy, 165 Sergeants have been elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals promoted to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables have advanced to the rank of Corporal.
The Police High Command said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to reward diligence, professionalism, and dedication to duty among personnel of the Force.

Speaking on the development, IGP Disu described timely promotion as a critical component of the Force’s human resource management strategy, stressing that it serves as a key motivation tool for officers in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
He noted that the promotion of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current police leadership to merit-based career progression, institutional development, and the overall welfare of officers.
The Inspector-General congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and service.
He charged them to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by demonstrating professionalism, discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights in the course of their duties.
According to him, the Force remains committed to strengthening institutional capacity, rewarding hard work, and promoting excellence in line with global best practices in policing.
The promotion exercise is expected to enhance motivation among personnel and reinforce ongoing reforms aimed at improving service delivery and operational effectiveness within the Nigeria Police Force.
