Wife of Late Gen Rabe Rescued From Bandits, Injured by Gunfire in the Process
Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, from bandits’ captivity following a coordinated rescue operation.
Mrs. Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband by armed bandits a few weeks ago in an incident that shocked the nation. Major General Abubakar later died during the ordeal.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed on Monday that the rescue was achieved through sustained search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA.
According to him, troops intensified offensive operations against criminal elements and mounted sustained pressure on the bandits, leading to contact with the kidnappers at Tunga Village.
The military spokesperson said the operation culminated in the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar.
“In the course of the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure from advancing troops,” Major General Uba stated.
He explained that the rescued victim was immediately evacuated from the area and transported to a military medical facility for urgent treatment.

Mrs. Abubakar is currently receiving medical attention at a military hospital and is responding positively to treatment, according to the Defence Headquarters.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria assured that all necessary medical care and support are being provided to facilitate her recovery, while also extending assistance to her family during the difficult period.
“The leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing all necessary support to her family,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, security forces have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing bandits and other members of the criminal network responsible for the abduction.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining ongoing military operations aimed at neutralising terrorists, kidnappers, and other criminal groups operating across the country.
Troops, according to the military, will continue offensive operations not only in Katsina State but across other affected regions as part of broader efforts to restore peace and security nationwide.
The rescue comes amid intensified military campaigns against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the North-West and other parts of the country, where security forces have recorded a series of operational successes in recent months.
