Court Remands Ex-CCT Chairman Danladi Umar in Kuje Prison Over Alleged Abuse of Office
Former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) pending the hearing of his bail application.
Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, gave the order on Thursday after Umar was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a four-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office.
The EFCC accused the former tribunal chairman of using his office to confer undue advantage on himself while serving as head of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Umar pleaded not guilty to all four charges.

Following his plea, counsel to the EFCC, Christopher Mshelia, urged the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the commencement of proceedings.
Counsel to the defendant informed the court that a bail application had already been filed and requested that it be heard.
However, the prosecution opposed the immediate hearing of the application, stating that it had only just been served with the bail motion and needed time to study and file a response.
In his ruling, Justice Kekemeke ordered that Umar be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until July 15, 2026, for the hearing and determination of the bail application.
