Defence Minister Commissions Armoured Fleet in Sokoto, Charges Troops to Defeat Criminals
The Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on Wednesday commissioned a newly acquired fleet of armoured vehicles and other security equipment procured by the Sokoto State Government, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Sokoto, the minister commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as proactive leadership and a strong commitment to the safety and security of residents.
General Musa said the state’s investment in security assets demonstrated the critical role of peace and security in driving sustainable development, noting that no meaningful socio-economic progress could be achieved in an atmosphere of insecurity.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the country’s security challenges under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that safeguarding lives and property remains a top priority.
According to the minister, effective responses to contemporary security threats require robust collaboration among the federal, state and local governments, as well as other critical stakeholders.

While highlighting the importance of modern military equipment, General Musa stressed that technology alone could not guarantee success without professionalism, discipline and effective inter-agency cooperation.
He also lauded the Sokoto State Government for complementing military operations with community-based intelligence initiatives, describing intelligence gathering and public trust as indispensable components of successful security operations.
The minister charged security personnel deployed to frontline operations to utilise the newly acquired assets responsibly and professionally, urging them to uphold the rule of law while remaining resolute in the fight against criminal elements.
He called on the troops to justify the significant public investment in the security sector through selfless service, integrity and decisive operational successes.
General Musa further reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to leveraging advanced technology, improved personnel welfare and enhanced operational capacity to build a safer and more secure Nigeria where citizens can live and pursue their livelihoods without fear.
The armoured vehicles and security equipment were procured by the Sokoto State Government to strengthen ongoing efforts to combat banditry and other security threats in the state and the wider North-West region.
