NAF @60: Air Chief Inaugurates 15 Projects to Boost Personnel Welfare

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has unveiled 15 key infrastructure projects in Abuja, to bolster personnel welfare and operational capacity in commemoration of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 60th anniversary.

A statement by AVM Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, on Tuesday in Abuja, said the infrastructure developments is to address critical needs within the force.

Gabkwet highlighted some of the key projects located at NAF Base, Asokoro, to include a 40-bed NAF Hospital, sports complex, NAF Microfinance Bank, fire bay, and a 56-shop market plaza.
He said these facilities are expected to improve the quality of life for NAF personnel and their families.

According to him, CAS also unveiled the NAF Airmen Mini Base in Karu, new officers’ quarters in Garki and Karimu, a six-story headquarters annex building in Gudu, and a state-of-the-art Airport Commandant’s office at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The Air Spokesman said one of the most ambitious projects is the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed NAF Centre of Excellence Complex on Bill Clinton Drive. This center will include the Institute of Airpower Studies, the Air Force War College, the Air Warfare Centre, and the Air to Ground Integration School. Once completed, it will provide top-tier education and foster innovation in airpower doctrines.

Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted that the NAF has been addressing housing shortages due to its expanded force structure. These new projects are part of his leadership’s strategy to ensure a highly motivated force through enhanced welfare and infrastructural improvements. He emphasized the importance of securing and properly claiming NAF properties to create space for future operational facilities and accommodations for the growing workforce.

“It is envisaged that when completed, the centre would offer first-rate air power education and learning as well as foster innovation in air power doctrinal development.

The statement reads in part: “Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted that the NAF has been addressing housing shortages due to its expanded force structure. These new projects are part of his leadership’s strategy to ensure a highly motivated force through enhanced welfare and infrastructural improvements.

“He emphasized the importance of securing and properly claiming NAF properties to create space for future operational facilities and accommodations for the growing workforce.

“These advancements not only bolster the NAF’s operational capabilities but also significantly elevate the welfare of its personnel, ensuring the force is well-prepared to confront future challenges,” Abubakar stated. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support and urged NAF personnel to make the most of the new facilities.

“The unveiling of these projects is a fitting tribute to NAF’s six decades of service and sacrifice, aligning with Air Marshal Abubakar’s transformative agenda to reposition the force for sustained growth and development.

“Abubakar said NAF has been struggling with housing shortage due to its expanded force structure, adding that the challenge was being tackled head-on by his leadership.”
