Neliaku Inducts 421 Information Officers as NIPR Members

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has inducted 421 professionals and career civil servants as new members.

The inductees are information officers from the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

The induction ceremony, held at the National Press Centre, Radio House, in Abuja, attracted distinguished guests, including Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation.

In his address, Alhaji Idris noted that the NIPR has long been a bastion of excellence, offering training, certification, and a framework for ethical conduct in public relations.

He said: “Through its efforts, the NIPR has nurtured generations of professionals who continue to play pivotal roles in nation-building.

“I commend the leadership of the NIPR for their dedication to advancing the profession and for organizing this induction ceremony, which underscores the importance of continuous professional development.”

The Minister emphasized the Federal Government’s recognition of effective communication as indispensable to governance.

He added: “As the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, I am committed to ensuring that our public communication systems are robust, transparent, and aligned with best practices.

“This induction ceremony aligns with our broader vision to strengthen the capacity of information officers across all tiers of government to engage meaningfully with the public and counter misinformation effectively.”

The Minister was represented at the event by one Dr. Sulaiman Haruna.

The President and Chairman of the NIPR Governing Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku, reiterated the importance of professional certification in public relations.

He stated: “The law of our Institute provides for the criminal prosecution of those practicing PR as a career without certification by the NIPR.

“As an Institute, we shall not relent in fighting those who masquerade as PR practitioners while they are nothing but quacks.”
