Adeniyi to Promoted Customs Officers: Prioritize Our Ethical Standards

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adeniyi Adewale, has charged eight newly-promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to uphold ethical standards and demonstrate greater commitment to their responsibilities.

Adeniyi made this call during a decoration ceremony held today at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja.

The event saw the decoration of one Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) and seven Assistant Comptroller Generals (ACGs), all recognized for their exceptional service and contributions to the Customs’ operations.

The CGC highlighted that the promotions were merit-based, involving rigorous examinations and strict adherence to the Service’s established procedures.

In his address, Adeniyi stressed the significance of the officers’ new roles, saying, “Your promotion calls for more commitment, where you will be involved in high-level decision-making. This requires your unwavering dedication, commitment, and application of ethical standards in discharging duties.”

He reiterated that their elevation was a testament to their years of dedication and the value they bring to the Nigeria Customs.

The Customs boss further tasked the newly-promoted officers to serve as role models and mentors to younger personnel.

He emphasized the need to nurture upcoming officers, ensuring they are well-equipped to carry on the Service’s mandate.

“To the young officers, you will be given more opportunities to showcase your talents and prove yourselves. Learn from the senior officers about the good works they have been doing concerning our mode of operations,” Adeniyi said.

Adeniyi also underscored the broader impact of their leadership on the nation’s revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and trade facilitation.

He urged them to maintain a high sense of responsibility and inspire their teams to meet and surpass the Service’s goals.

Responding on behalf of the decorated officers, DCG S Chiroma, expressed gratitude to the NCS Board and the CGC for the recognition.

He assured the leadership of their commitment to upholding the Service’s standards and delivering on its constitutional mandates.

“The reward for hard work is more work, and to whom much is given, much is expected. We are going to do our best in ensuring that the Customs continue to remain committed to its constitutional mandates,” DCG Chiroma said.
