Insecurity, Violent Deaths Reduced by Over 90% in Nigeria — NSA Ribadu

National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has revealed that Nigeria has witnessed a significant decline in insecurity, with violent deaths reduced by over 90 percent under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking in Jos, Plateau State, after a meeting with the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, Ribadu addressed journalists in the wake of a deadly attack in Bokkos Local Government Area that claimed numerous lives.

According to the NSA, the Tinubu administration remains committed to restoring peace and stability across the country.

“In the past one year and ten months, Nigeria has seen a dramatic drop—probably more than 90 percent—in violent deaths. We have data to back this. The number of those who lost their lives to extreme violence in 2022 and 2023 has significantly declined,” Ribadu stated.

He noted that many criminal elements have been apprehended and are undergoing investigation, stressing the government’s resolve to pursue justice.

“I can assure Nigerians that justice will be served. Those found guilty will be prosecuted. We’ve already prosecuted nearly 2,000 terrorists nationwide, and many have been convicted. This government is serious, transparent, and determined to do more,” he said.

Ribadu commended the military and other security agencies for their swift response in containing the recent violence in Plateau and preventing a wider crisis.

“The country may be going through tough times, but it won’t last forever. President Tinubu has made it clear that enough is enough. Whatever measures we’ve taken to improve the situation will be intensified to ensure lasting peace and security so that Nigerians can live normal lives,” he emphasized.

However, the NSA contested the casualty figures reported by some media outlets regarding the Bokkos attacks, asserting that the numbers have been exaggerated.

He urged the media to prioritize accuracy in their reporting.

“We appeal to journalists to always verify information and report accurately. Truthful reporting helps us manage crises, promote healing, and move forward toward a more peaceful society,” Ribadu concluded.
