Be Battle-Ready Against Insurgents, Other Non-State Actors – Army Chief Charges New Recruits

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged newly passed-out recruits of the Nigerian Army to stand ready as the next line of defence against terrorism, insurgency, and other threats confronting Nigeria.

Addressing 6,195 graduates of the 88 Regular Recruits Intake during their Passing Out Parade at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State, on Saturday, the Army Chief urged the fresh soldiers to uphold the Army’s values of courage, professionalism, and resilience.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede reminded the recruits that the life of a soldier is defined by sacrifice, loyalty, and patriotism, saying, “The Nigerian Army is a professional institution tasked with the critical mandate of safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our great nation.”

“As you pass out today and officially join the ranks of this noble profession, remember that you are now an important part of Nigeria’s response to insecurity. Wherever you are deployed, your conduct must reflect your rigorous training, and you must exhibit courage in the face of adversity,” he said.

Oluyede commended the recruits for their perseverance since beginning their training on January 13, 2025, noting that their journey into military service is just beginning. He urged them to remain anchored in the Army’s core values of discipline, loyalty, integrity, selfless service, courage, and respect.

“These values will be your compass in trying times and will lead you to your finest moments in service,” he added.

The Army Chief further emphasized the importance of excellence and dedication, telling the recruits that they must remain committed to the “currency of trustworthiness, excellence, determination, and selfless service.”

Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of personnel, Oluyede said the Army Headquarters would continue to provide the support needed for training and operational success. He also revealed that preparations for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake were already at an advanced stage.

“I encourage you to enjoy a brief, well-earned break before returning to play your role in building a stronger Army,” he said.

He concluded by expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support and belief in the Nigerian Army.
