Police Nab Two for Cement Diversion Across Four States
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two suspected fraudsters linked to the diversion and illegal conversion of cement shipments across Anambra, Edo, Rivers, and Delta States.
The suspects, identified as Mr. Mmaduabuchi Udo and Mr. Abubakar Babangida, were apprehended on June 23, 2025, in Abuja by the Command’s CP Monitoring Unit following an intelligence-led operation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary investigations revealed that the duo specialized in profiling cement dealers on social media to extract sensitive operational details.
They allegedly exploited this information to redirect cement consignments intended for legitimate businesses, thereby defrauding unsuspecting victims.

“The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and have provided useful information that is helping us track down other members of the syndicate,” Ikenga said, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The arrest highlights the growing risks posed by cyber-enabled economic crimes and the need for heightened caution when sharing business-related information online.
The police also warned business owners to verify the identity of clients and partners, especially on social media platforms.
The Commissioner of Police, while reaffirming the Command’s resolve to safeguard lives, property, and economic interests, urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency contact lines.
