Wike Launches “Operation Sweep” FCT of Beggars and Scavengers

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a comprehensive operation aimed at ridding Abuja and its satellite towns of miscreants, street beggars, illegal traders, “one-chance” syndicates, and scavengers.

The directive, issued by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, seeks to restore the capital’s status as a secure and aesthetically pleasing symbol of national pride.

“Operation Sweep Abuja,” as it’s been 코드named, officially commenced today, according to a statement released by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister. The operation is in direct alignment with the Abuja Environmental Protection Act and other relevant laws, emphasizing the FCTA’s commitment to immediate action against these social nuisances.

“Our nation’s capital should be a secured symbol of pride and beauty, not a site for street beggars and scavengers, most of whom are agents of criminal elements,” the statement read, underscoring the administration’s resolve to tackle the root causes of insecurity and disorder.

To ensure the effectiveness of this initiative, a Joint Task Force has been deployed. This force comprises various security agencies and relevant FCT Secretariats, Departments, and Agencies (SDAs). Their mandate is to apprehend individuals found begging, scavenging, loitering, or engaging in any activities deemed detrimental to the well-being of residents.

Upon apprehension, individuals will undergo profiling before being handed over to their respective home state governments. This measure aims to address the issue systematically and ensure accountability.

The FCTA reiterated its paramount commitment to the security of lives and properties within the FCT. The administration is urging all residents to actively participate in achieving a safer Abuja. “Security is my job, your job and our job,” the statement emphasized, calling for collective responsibility.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious movements to the authorities using the provided hotlines: 08061581938 and 08032003913.

This new operation signifies a strong stance by the FCTA against elements that compromise the safety and order of the nation’s capital.
