Flood Alert: Heavy Rains Threaten 7 Nigerian States this Weekend August 24-24
The Federal Ministry of Environment has issued an urgent flood warning, advising residents in multiple states to prepare for potential flooding over the next 48 hours. .
The alert, released today by the ministry’s Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Control Department, warns of heavy rainfall expected between August 23rd and 24th, 2025.

The latest prediction obtained by PRNigeria expands on a previous alert from August 20th and highlights specific locations likely to be affected. Benue State communities, including Makurdi, Otukpo, and Gbajimba, are on high alert, alongside areas in Borno, Gombe, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Niger, and Yobe states. Cities such as Maiduguri, Gombe, Jega, and Keffi are among those identified as high-risk.
In addition to the rainfall, the ministry noted a significant rise in the water level of the River Niger. As a result, communities along the flood plain from Jebba to Lokoja have been strongly advised to evacuate to safer ground.
The warning, signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood & Coastal Zone Management Department, urges relevant stakeholders and state governments to take immediate action and provide feedback to the National Flood Early Warning Center (FEWS CENTER).
Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to monitor local news, follow guidance from emergency services, and take necessary precautions to protect their property and ensure their safety.
