BUK Forum Praises Naziru Kankarofi’s Elevation to Commissioner of Police
The Bayero University Kano (BUK) Class of 1992 has extended heartfelt congratulations to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Naziru Bello Kankarofi on his elevation to the rank of Commissioner of Police, recognizing his distinguished career and exceptional qualifications.
Speaking on behalf of the BUK 92 Forum, Chairman Muhammad Dahiru Saad described Kankarofi’s promotion as well-deserved, citing his extensive operational experience and advanced legal education as key assets for his new leadership role. Saad emphasized that Kankarofi’s appointment signals a renewed commitment to tackling criminality and strengthening law enforcement in the region.
A native of Kano Municipal in Kano State, CP Kankarofi brings over three decades of high-stakes policing and security expertise to the position. His career is marked by deep involvement in counter-insurgency operations and high-risk law enforcement, making him uniquely equipped to address complex security challenges across Nigeria.
A former ADC to Kwara Governor in 1999 to 2003, Kankarofi has led multiple Police Mobile Force (PMF) squadrons in volatile regions, including 9 PMF in Kano State (2005–2006), 10 PMF in Bauchi State (2006–2010), 48 PMF in Ahoada, Rivers State (2010–2012), and 54 PMF in Onitsha, Anambra State (2015–2016).

Between 2016 and 2019, he served in the Inspector General of Police’s X-Squad in Kano and Jigawa States, focusing on internal integrity and anti-corruption enforcement within the police force.
His command credentials include serving as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ilorin, Kwara State (2014–2015) and Area Commander in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State (2019–2022).
Kankarofi is a highly educated officer whose academic achievements bridge law enforcement and legal theory. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) obtained in 2020, earned his Barrister at Law (BL) in 2013, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2009. He also possesses a B.Sc. in Economics and Political Science from Bayero University, Kano, earned in 1992, and is a practicing member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
His leadership development includes the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the National Institute of Police Studies (2021) and the Senior Executive Course (SEC) at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos (2024–2025).
Appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police in March 2022, CP Kankarofi’s promotion marks the culmination of a journey that began with his enlistment as a Cadet ASP in 1994. A devoted family man, he now assumes a top leadership role in policing, bringing with him a legacy of service, integrity, and strategic vision.
