NAF Airstrikes Eliminate Scores of ISWAP Fighters in Timbuktu Triangle, Yobe Axis
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has neutralised more than 10 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during precision air interdiction operations in parts of Borno and Yobe states, including the volatile Timbuktu Triangle.
Intelligence sources disclosed that the successful strikes were carried out on January 13 following actionable, real-time intelligence provided by Army unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which detected the movement and concentration of ISWAP elements along the Ambia Tasha, Ambia Sheruri, Ambia Turo and Shangamaru axis in Yobe State.

Acting on the intelligence, OPHK authorised and executed precision airstrikes targeting identified terrorist positions and assets, including motorcycles used for mobility and logistics. Initial battle damage assessment confirmed heavy terrorist casualties, with more than 10 insurgents neutralised in the operation.
According to the sources, aerial surveillance observed about 10 terrorists assembled under a large, dense tree with motorcycles and bicycles, with indications that additional fighters were concealed within the thick canopy.
“The Air Component was tasked to engage the target, and the strike was carried out with precision. Post-strike assessment showed overwhelming neutralisation, with only one individual observed fleeing the impact area,” the sources said.
The Air Component of OPHK reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist networks across the North-East.
“These operations underscore our determination to deny terrorists freedom of movement, degrade their logistics, and safeguard civilian populations. Air surveillance and precision strikes will continue in close coordination with ground forces until all remaining threats are eliminated,” the sources added.
