Senator Ibrahim Shekarau Loses Elder Brother, Dahiru Shekarau
Former Governor of Kano State and Senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, has been thrown into mourning following the death of his elder brother, Malam Dahiru Shekarau.
The passing of the retired Permanent Secretary was confirmed by family sources on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, prompting an outpouring of condolences from associates, political allies, and members of the Kano community.

Malam Dahiru Shekarau was a distinguished figure in Kano State’s public service. Over the course of his career, he rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary — one of the highest positions in the state civil service — and was widely regarded as a disciplined, experienced, and principled administrator committed to institutional growth and effective governance.
Confirming the development, Prof. Sule Ya’u Sule, former Chief Press Secretary to Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, announced that the Janaza (funeral prayer) have already took place on Wednesday at the Giginyu Jumu’a Mosque in Kano by 10:00 a.m.
Tributes have continued to pour in from political, governmental, and community leaders, reflecting the family’s longstanding contributions to public service and leadership in Kano State.
Malam Dahiru Shekarau is survived by members of his immediate and extended family, including Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
