Troops Foil Terrorist Plots, Arrest Arms Smugglers in Yobe and Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled insurgents, disrupted suspected terrorist gatherings, and arrested five suspected arms smugglers during coordinated operations across Yobe and Borno States.
According to security sources, at about 6:21 p.m. on February 17, troops acted on credible intelligence that terrorists were converging in large numbers on motorcycles in Mangari, approximately 10.6 kilometres from the 135 Special Forces Battalion in Buratai, Yobe. The swift fire mission forced the insurgents to disperse in disarray, effectively thwarting their suspected plans.

In a separate operation in Yobe, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Potiskum intercepted five suspected arms smugglers and abductors at a checkpoint along the Gombe–Potiskum road at about 4:30 a.m. on February 18. The arrested suspects were identified as Baba Abare, 41, found in possession of an AK-47 rifle; Idris Zakari, 33; Nasiru Aliyu, 25; Abdullahi Sulaiman, 35; and Mohammed Idris, 34, all indigenes of Potiskum. The suspects were traveling in two Golf Wagon vehicles, registration numbers Borno NGL-506XA and Kaduna DKD16-01, and were subsequently disarmed and handed over to authorities for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in Ngamdu, Borno State, troops acted on signals intelligence that suspected Boko Haram elements were massing. At about 2:30 a.m. on February 18, they carried out a targeted fire mission, forcing the insurgents to abandon their plan. Shortly after, at approximately 3:45 a.m., troops engaged and neutralised a suspected insurgent informant attempting to breach the defensive trench in Ngamdu. A subsequent search of the area yielded no further contact with fleeing suspects.
These coordinated operations demonstrate the ongoing efforts of the military to enhance security, disrupt terrorist activities, and apprehend criminals involved in arms trafficking across the northeast region.
