FRSC Deploys Personnel Nationwide for Eid-el-fitri Special Operations
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the nationwide deployment of personnel and logistics for its 2026 Eid-El-Fitri Special Patrol Operations aimed at ensuring safer highways and smooth vehicular movement during the festive period.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, ordered the operation which is scheduled to run from March 17 to March 22, 2026, as part of measures to guarantee safe travels for motorists and other road users during the Sallah celebrations.
According to the Corps Marshal, the special patrol is in line with the agency’s statutory responsibility of promoting safer road use across Nigeria and reducing road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries.
He explained that the operation would involve increased patrol visibility, strategic deployment of rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns for motorists.
Mohammed noted that the Eid-El-Fitri celebration period traditionally witnesses heavy vehicular movement across the country as Muslim faithful travel to celebrate with family and loved ones. He said the Corps had mobilised its operational assets to manage the anticipated surge in traffic and prevent avoidable road crashes caused by speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, route violations, and other traffic offences.
He disclosed that the Corps would maintain 24-hour patrol operations along critical road corridors nationwide, supported by standby rescue teams, operational ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, and motorbikes to ensure prompt response to emergencies.
The FRSC also said the special patrol would involve the immediate removal of obstructions from highways and close monitoring of traffic situations to minimise delays and enhance the free flow of traffic for road users.

As part of the enforcement drive, the Corps said it would prioritise major traffic violations such as excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, road obstruction, overloading, mix-loading of passengers and goods, seat-belt violations, and the operation of mechanically deficient vehicles. The enforcement efforts, it added, would be complemented by robust public enlightenment programmes aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance with traffic regulations.
To strengthen the operation, commanding officers across various sector commands have been directed to ensure the full deployment of operational equipment, including patrol vehicles, advanced life support ambulances, tow trucks, radar guns, breathalysers, traffic cones, patrol bikes, and communication gadgets. Special Marshals have also been encouraged to actively participate in traffic control activities across commands during the operation.
The Corps Marshal further emphasised that the FRSC would maintain close collaboration with other security and emergency response agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to ensure swift emergency response and maintain order on highways.
In addition, the Corps said it would utilise its National Traffic Radio 107.1FM to provide real-time traffic updates, travel advisories, and alternative route guidance for motorists throughout the period of the special patrol.
Members of the public were also encouraged to report crashes, traffic obstructions, or emergencies through the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
While wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-El-Fitri celebration, the Corps Marshal urged motorists to cooperate with FRSC personnel and other law enforcement agencies by obeying traffic rules, avoiding speeding, ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy, and exercising patience while driving.
He reiterated the Corps’ commitment to creating a safer motoring environment for all road users across the country.
