New Sokoto CP Shaffa Unveils Strategy to Tackle Insecurity
The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has assumed office with a pledge to intensify efforts against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats confronting the state.
Speaking during his maiden press briefing at the State Command Headquarters, CP Shaffa expressed gratitude to Almighty God and appreciated the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as well as the Police Service Commission, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Sokoto State Command.
He described his appointment as a call to duty and vowed to justify the confidence reposed in him through professionalism, strategic leadership, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The police chief acknowledged the complex security challenges facing Sokoto State, including terrorism, banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping, noting that these threats have led to loss of lives, displacement of communities, and economic hardship.
According to him, the impact of insecurity extends beyond physical danger, affecting the psychological well-being of citizens and placing pressure on government resources meant for development.
He also paid tribute to security personnel who have made sacrifices in the line of duty, assuring that their efforts would not be in vain.
Outlining his vision, CP Shaffa said his administration would be anchored on intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, community partnership, and inter-agency collaboration.
He disclosed that the command would leverage intelligence platforms and early warning systems to enhance operational efficiency and proactively tackle crime.

The commissioner emphasised the importance of strengthening engagement with communities through the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), noting that effective policing requires trust and cooperation between the police and the public.
He further pledged to deepen collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as traditional and religious leaders.
CP Shaffa outlined key operational priorities to include enhanced patrols and visibility policing across urban and rural areas, sustained anti-crime operations targeting criminal networks, and proactive conflict prevention measures.
He also assured that special attention would be given to protecting vulnerable groups, including women and children, through targeted initiatives such as school safety programmes.
The commissioner said the command would embark on public sensitisation campaigns in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and media organisations to promote civic responsibility and crime prevention awareness.
Addressing officers and men of the command, he called for discipline, professionalism, and dedication to duty, stressing the need for proper planning and high standards of service.
He also pledged to prioritise personnel welfare to enable officers perform their duties effectively.
CP Shaffa reaffirmed his commitment to transparent and inclusive leadership, urging stakeholders, including government institutions, traditional authorities, the media, and citizens, to support efforts to restore peace and security in the state.
He expressed optimism that with collective action, Sokoto State would overcome its security challenges and remain safe for residents and businesses.
