IG Disu Pledges Full Police Support for NAPTIP in Anti-Trafficking Drive
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons in combating human trafficking and organised crime across Nigeria.
He made the pledge on April 21, 2026, while receiving the Director-General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The NAPTIP delegation included senior directors responsible for intelligence, legal services, finance, investigations, information technology, and victim support, reflecting the agency’s multi-sectoral approach to tackling trafficking and related offences.
During the meeting, Bello congratulated the Inspector-General on his leadership and commended the police for its continued support to NAPTIP operations. She also called for deeper institutional cooperation, particularly in technical assistance, intelligence sharing, and joint operational frameworks to enhance the agency’s effectiveness.

In his response, the Inspector-General assured the delegation of the police force’s full operational backing, stating that the NPF would deploy its intelligence and technical capabilities to strengthen NAPTIP’s mandate.
He outlined a more intelligence-driven approach to collaboration, including enhanced joint operations, deployment of liaison officers between both agencies, and real-time intelligence sharing aimed at dismantling organised criminal networks involved in trafficking and related crimes.
He further pledged support from key specialised units, including the Intelligence Response Team and the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, alongside capacity-building programmes and specialised training for NAPTIP personnel within police training institutions.
The Inspector-General also proposed institutionalising regular strategic briefings between both agencies to track progress and sustain coordinated efforts.
He emphasised that the strengthened partnership reflects a zero-tolerance posture toward human trafficking and transnational organised crime, adding that perpetrators would find no safe haven within Nigeria’s borders.
