Army Eliminates Terrorists, Recover 6 Motorcycles, Rustled Livestock in Katsina, Sokoto
Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded operational successes in separate counterterrorism missions in Katsina and Sokoto States, resulting in the neutralisation of suspected terrorists and recovery of motorcycles and rustled livestock.
In Katsina State, troops of 17 Brigade, in collaboration with police operatives and local vigilantes, recovered six motorcycles following an encounter with suspected terrorists in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on May 19 during a fighting patrol conducted around Yamama village by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Malumfashi alongside other security agencies.
During the patrol, the troops reportedly sighted suspected terrorists operating in the area and immediately engaged them. The armed group fled towards the Gora general area, prompting a pursuit by the security forces.
However, the advance was reportedly constrained by difficult terrain, which limited movement of the patrol team. Despite this, troops engaged the fleeing suspects with long-range fire and subsequently conducted a follow-up sweep of the general area.

During the exploitation, six motorcycles believed to have been used by the suspects were recovered.
Security sources said operations have been intensified in the area to track the fleeing elements and deny terrorist groups freedom of action within Malumfashi and adjoining communities.
In a separate operation in Sokoto State, troops of 8 Division neutralised two suspected terrorists during a response mission triggered by intelligence reports on armed movement and rustled livestock in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
The operation took place at about 12:00 p.m. on May 19, following credible information on the movement of armed elements around Garin Faaji and Zalla Bango villages.
Troops reportedly intercepted the suspects at the Garin Faaji Fadama area, where they made contact and engaged them in a brief firefight, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists.
Recovered items from the scene included one camel and 34 sheep, believed to have been rustled by the armed group.
The recovered livestock were handed over to relevant local government authorities for further action.
Security authorities said both operations form part of sustained efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and cattle rustling across vulnerable border communities in Katsina and Sokoto States.
